There’s a lot coming up right now individually and collectively. This virtual gathering is an invitation to pause, reconnect, and learn practical ways to move through what we’re carrying. In partnership with Mayan midwives from Lake Atitlán, Guatemala, and Elemental Guides, we’re opening a 3-part virtual series focused on working with the elements to process emotion, restore balance, and reconnect to the body. We begin with Earth. What to expect: A guided live practice via Zoom Connection to a traditional Mayan ceremony led by midwives on the land Simple, embodied tools for daily life A space to slow down, reflect, and reset This space is open to everyone. Marble Collegiate Church

Joan Lunden, award-winning journalist, bestselling author and longtime host of ABC’s “Good Morning America,” will kick off “Inspired Conversations With…” Marble Collegiate Church’s new series featuring notable thought leaders on Thursday, April 30, 6 p.m. in the historic Sanctuary at 1 W. 29th Street in New York City.
Lunden will share stories from her newest book, Joan: Life Beyond the Script, during a memorable evening to be moderated by Faye Wattleton, longtime Marble member, former president of Planned Parenthood, author, speaker and a leading voice in protecting women’s rights. 
In Lunden’s memoir, she discusses breaking barriers in broadcast journalism, redefining motherhood and courageously sharing her breast cancer journey to advocate for women’s health and caregiving. Her story is one of resilience, reinvention and living boldly at every stage of life. Following this conversation, Lunden will sign her book, which is included in the $25 in-person admission.

Discover the beauty and simplicity of the fretted dulcimer in this engaging, hands-on instrument workshop led by musician, writer, and folklorist Nils Caspersson. Rooted in Swedish tradition and influenced by 19th-century Scandinavian-American design, the fretted dulcimer features a distinctive hourglass shape, diatonic fret pattern, elegant scroll, and heart-shaped sound holes. Historically connected to instruments such as the Moraharpa, Hummel, and Psalmodikon, it likely made its way to America with Scandinavian immigrants traveling along the Erie Canal prior to the Civil War.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of dulcimer playing in a welcoming, beginner-friendly environment in two Saturday workshops! No prior musical experience is necessary.
Workshop 1 (90 minutes): 11:00 AM
• Introduction to tuning (D-A-D) • Basic strumming techniques • Play your first tune within minutes • Learn a traditional Swedish fiddle tune, “Malberg’s Polska” (printed music provided) • Understanding the dulcimer’s fret pattern • Practice time and preparation tips for the next session • Q&amp;A
Workshop 2 (90 minutes): 3:00 PM
• Playing with a wooden noter • Introduction to harmonics • Learn familiar tunes including “This Land Is Your Land” and “Winter Wonderland” • Chord techniques with “Josephine’s Waltz” • Basics of improvisation • Exploring CAD tuning • Instrument care and maintenance • Q&amp;A
Participants should bring their own fretted dulcimer tuned to D-A-D. A limited number of instruments will be available for those new to the instrument. Come experience how quickly and joyfully you can begin making music!
