This East Side Movie Theater Will Close At End Of Year: What To Know

NEW YORK CITY — AMC Kips Bay 15, the 15-screen movie theater on Second Avenue near East 31st Street, will close by the end of 2026, AMC confirmed Monday.

The Kips Bay multiplex, which opened in 1999 and became an AMC location in 2006, is the company’s second-largest theater in Manhattan. It has been a popular East Side destination for its broad movie selection and IMAX auditorium.

AMC said the closure follows the property owner’s decision to exercise a contractual right to terminate the theater’s lease before its scheduled expiration. AMC has not announced an exact closing date.

The closure will reduce movie options on the East Side, where Kips Bay has served as a major alternative to larger theaters in Midtown. AMC said details are still being finalized, and a formal closing date will be announced in the coming months.
