31 Bags of Marijuana Recovered During Great Neck Traffic Stop: Police

A Queens man was arrested Monday night, police say.

A Queens man was found to be in possession of 31 bags of marijuana following a vehicle traffic stop in Great Neck on Monday night, police say.

According to authorities, George Martinez, 30, of Ridgewood, was pulled over on Pembroke Avenue and Belmont Road after a patrol car equipped with a license plate reader received an alarm for a vehicle with a suspended registration at 6:40 p.m.

The officer could spell a strong odor of marijuana as he approached the vehicle and another officer noticed marijuana cigarettes in the rear of the vehicle, police say.

A subsequent investigation led to the discovery of 31 bags of marijuana and concentrated cannabis in vape vials in the vehicle, police say.

Martinez was placed under arrest without incident and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

He will be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
