Afternoon Matinee: heck out Disney's Pixar film Brave at the Great Neck Library Tuesday and enjoy an afternoon of popcorn fueled cinema. Rating: PG. For children ages 2-12 with parent/caregiver Adult library card is not valid for registration. Participating child's library card is required for registration. Tomorrow: Grande Festa Italiana: Sponsored by the John Michael Marino Sons of Italy. Long Island`s oldest and largest feast with rides, games, food, live entertainment, casino. Ample parking. Proceeds donated to charity. Runs from 6-11 p.m. at North Hempstead Beach Park. Free admission. Rides: $25.
Nearby: Snapper fishing for kids in Port Washington. All bait and equipment provided. Fishing mates on hand to bait hooks, release fish, and give fishing tips. For kids under 13. Admission: $10 per pole. Bring a cooler to keep some fish. Fishing starts at 6 p.m. Check in and pay at Atlantic Outfitters, then walk down to end of Wharf to fish. Did You Know? The American flag was flown in battle for the first time on this day in 1777, during an Revolutionary War skirmish at Cooch's Bridge, Delaware. It's true, according tohistory.com which says Patriot General William Maxwell ordered the "Stars and Stripes" banner raised as a detachment of his infantry and cavalry met an advance guard of British and Hessian troops. The rebels were defeated and forced to retreat to Brandywine Creek in Pennsylvania, where they joined General George Washington's main force.
