• Great Neck fire department pays $460G more after insurer drops it (newsday.com) — Vigilant Engine & Hook & Ladder, which serves much of Great Neck, is facing a $460,000 jump in insurance costs after being dropped by its longtime carrier, forcing a switch to a new insurer. The Town of North Hempstead plans to use reserve funds to slightly increase its 2026 contribution so fire and EMS coverage for Great Neck residents continues without disruption.    

• Great Neck senior housing receives $22M for overdue renovation (longislandpress.com) — State funding will bring a $22 million overhaul to the aging senior housing complex at 700 Middle Neck Road, safeguarding 75 affordable units for Great Neck residents. The Village of Great Neck Housing Authority and a private developer will modernize critical systems and preserve long-term affordability for low-income seniors, though a construction start date has not yet been announced.    

• 21 Long Island students win first place at science competition (newsday.com) — Great Neck South High School’s Science Olympiad team is heading to nationals after a strong second-place finish at the New York State tournament, building on its regional win. Great Neck middle schoolers also earned first-place honors in the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair, joining standout students from across Long Island recognized for top STEM projects.
