Drunken Driver Impersonates Cop, Grabs at Officer’s Gun in Lake Success: Police

The incident occurred Friday morning, police say.

A Queens Village man lied about being a police officer and tried to grab a real officer’s gun after he was pulled over for driving drunk in Lake Success Friday morning, police say.

An officer pulled over a man in a 2013 Infiniti near the entrance ramp of the Long Island Expressway for failing to maintain his lane while driving southbound on Community Drive at 2:04 a.m., police say.

According to authorities, the driver, identified as 34-year-old Gurpreet Singh, told the officer multiple times that he was also a police officer and showed a mini badge.

Singh exited the vehicle for questioning and tried to grab the officer’s gun two times, police say.

He was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with second-degree criminal impersonation, obstructing government administration, DWI and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.

He will be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
