Engineering Student From Great Neck Wins Tech Award

Michelle Messenger submits award-winning essay in annual writing contest.

New York Institute of Technology student Michelle Messenger from Great Neck recently won the fall 2012 Creative Astoria Federal Savings Competion with an essay regarding women in the engineering field.

The annual contest open to undergraduate women in the school of engineering and computing sciences, represents NYIT and Astoria Federal’s efforts to encourage women to pursue careers in technology, according to event organizers. 

Messenger, a first-year student majoring in electrical and computer engineering in Manhattan, said she hopes to one day be able to put her education to use in a career that helps people.

"I'm interested in bionics," said Messenger on her school profile. "It would be amazing if I could work on some device to help someone walk or hear again."

For her efforts, Messenger was presented with a new iPad by contest sponsors.
