Fundraiser to Support 9-Year-Old Great Neck Girl in Need of Bone Marrow Transplant

All you need to do is swab your cheeks Sunday to give a young girl a fighting chance with her life-threatening disease.

Alison Trontz is a 9-year-old girl from Great Neck fighting a rare, life-threatening disease called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis.

Only one in 1.2 million people are diagnosed with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, which causes an immune system to not properly work. Due to the disease's genetic form, a life-saving bone marrow transplant is needed to help Alison beat the disease.

Her mother, Helene Trontz is inviting members of the Great Neck community and beyond to come together to swab their cheeks for Alison.

The swabbing event will take place during a Zumba Fundraiser on Sunday and will raise the funds needed for Alison’s growing medical costs.

Come out to support Alison at Temple Beth-El, located at 5 Old Mill Road. The Bone Marrow Drive and Zumba Fundraiser kicks off at 1 p.m.

The drive is part of the #Swabtember initiative, which looks to encourage people to register as bone marrow donors during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The event is organized by DKMS, an international nonprofit organization that’s leading the fight against blood cancer and other blood-related illnesses.
