Gas Prices Spike in Great Neck

Significant cost increases on peninsula in past week.

Gas prices in Great Neck are up considerably compared to the week before.

A Shell station at 208 Middle Neck Rd. is charging well more than $4 for full-service regular unleaded, with self-serve prices at $3.99 as of Tuesday.

The national gasoline average is up six cents from this time last year and up 18 cents from last week, according to Consumer Reports. Premium gas is $3.84, up 17 cents from last week. Diesel fuel is about 17 cents above this time last year, according to the report.

Prices have been down considerably in recent weeks after a gas shortage which caused prices to spike in the New York area following Hurricane Sandy.
