Great Neck Sports Notebook: Rebels Boys Basketball in First Place

There are so many sports out in the Great Neck area, it can be a full-time job just sifting through all of the action. Luckily, you have Patch and we will get you caught up in one convenient place each week.

Here’s what the local Great Neck teams have been up to this week:

Great Neck North

Boys Basketball: Great Neck fell to first-place Hewlett on Jan. 15 by a score of 55-44. Alec Ludwig and Evan Dorman led the Blazers with 20 and 11 points, respectively. Great Neck only trailed by two points at the half, but a 19-10 fourth quarter put Hewlett out ahead for good.

The team came back on Jan. 18, overwhelming Sewanhaka 66-36. Great Neck had four players in double-digits, including Dorman (15), Gilad Zohar (12), Ludwig (11) and Aria Nabatian (11). Dorman and Ludwig both had double-doubles in points and rebounds, getting 12 and 10, respectively.

Great Neck North is in second place with a 5-2 conference record and 7-5 overall.

Girls Basketball: The girls basketball team is still searching for their first win, falling to Hewlett at home 54-35 on Jan. 15 and at Sewanhaka 60-24 on Jan. 18. Delia McAward scored 10 points against Hewlett while Danielle Chaluts had 9 against Sewanhaka.

The girls have an 0-7 record and 0-11 overall.

Boys Bowling: Port Washington downed Great Neck North on Jan. 7 by 589-677, 597-568, 699-550. Great Neck is still searching for their first win with a 0-4 conference and 0-5 overall record.

Wrestling: Great Neck North fell to South Side 54-28 on Jan. 18. Kirshner (170), Elihu (195) and Nassimi (220) were the only Great Neck wrestlers to get pins.

Great Neck South

Boys Basketball: The southies lost to Calhoun on Jan. 15 by a score of 55-49. Mitchell Finkel had 16 pints in the game.

On Jan. 18 Great Neck South edged Carey 67-64. Brandon Brown had 21 points while Finkel added 14.

Great Neck South is in first place with a 7-1 record and 9-2 overall.

Girls Basketball: Great Neck South dominated Calhoun 49-18 on Jan. 15. Daisy Xu had a double-double with 20 points and 16 rebounds while Alexa Epstein had 10 points – five of them from the line – and 6 rebounds.

On Jan. 18 Carey dealt the girls a 63-34 loss, holding Great Neck to just 3 points in the fourth quarter. Dylan Livers and Xu each scored 10 points in the game.

Great Neck South is in fourth place with a 4-4- record and 5-5 in the conference.

Boys Bowling: Great Neck South is still searching for their first win with a 0-4 conference and 0-4 overall record. They were shut out against first-place Manhasset on Jan. 7.

Girls Bowling: Great Neck South is also still searching for their first win with a 0-3 conference and 0-3 overall record. They were shut out against first-place Garden City on Jan. 9.
