
Here’s what the local Great Neck teams have been up to this week:
Great Neck North:
Baseball: The boys lost both games this week, unfortunately, as they finished the season with a record of 0-17. On May 6 they lost a close one to Hewlett 3-1. Tyler Schanker tossed the complete game, allowing one earned run with seven strikeouts.
The next day they lost 15-3 to Hewlett. Josh Pincus led the way with a 5-for-6 effort with four runs scored and an RBI. Jason Cecchetelli was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.
Softball: The girls were edged by Malverne 10-9 in their only game of the week to finish the regular season at 6-6. Michelle Kretz drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single.Qwasia Young was 4-for-4 in the game.
Boys Lacrosse: They Blazers both of their games this week. On May 7 it was an 8-5 loss to Plainedge. Matt Miles had two goals and two assists. Despite the loss Evan Dorman scored three goals for GNN.
On May 9 they lost 16-5 to Bethpage. Christian Ferruzza scored six goals and Ryan Mahon added four goals and 3 assists.
Girls Lacrosse: On May 7 they lost 16-10 to Roslyn. Nicole Corn, Allison Schneider and Lindsey Wolfe all scored three goals for Roslyn.
Two days later they beat Sewanhaka 15-5. Gabrielle Berger scored five goals and Michele Schapira added three.
Great Neck South:
Baseball: On May 6 the Rebels defeated Roosevelt 5-0 in nine innings to finish their regular season at 12-3. The winning run was scored by Thomas Kelly on an error. He also tied up the game in the seventh with an RBI triple.
Softball: The girls lost on May 6 to Valley Stream Central by the score of 8-7. Tiffany Longarzo hit a two-run single to give VSC the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth. She also tossed a complete game and was the winning pitcher.
Boys Lacrosse: On May 7 the Rebels defeated Roslyn 14-11. Vincent Patrey scored five goals and two assists but the star was Andrew Voit who scored the tieing and go-ahead goals in the fourth quarter.
On May 9 they were toppled 15-7 by Bellmore JFK. Michael Eddi had four goals and one assist, and Chris Jones scored four goals of his own.
Girls Lacrosse: The girls did not play a game this week.
