Wendy Blanco recognized for contribution to Teenage Parenting Program with the Great Neck Unified School District.

Wendy Blanco of Great Neck was among 17 students honored with the George Farber Outstanding Student Award for their academic achievements, perseverance, enthusiasm and willingness to help others.
Blanco was honored for her Teenage Parenting Program with the Great Neck Unified School District.
In addition, each of the students received a monetary prize provided by the Nassau BOCES Educational Foundation.
"Staff members commented on how focused she was in her academic courses, how diligent she was in leaving the nurseries to get to her classes on time and how observant she was in her nursery classes," stated her bio on the BOCES website. "Wendy is an extremely compassionate individual and attentive mother who shares her warmth and concern with the other infants and mothers in the nursery. She is always the first one to reach out to calm a distressed baby or to assist with feeding a hungry infant.
Blanco told BOCES she is interested in a career in nursing or becoming a pharmaceutical technician. She is an honors student with a cumulative average of 92.5 percent.
The award is named for BOCES board president George Farber, the longest-serving board member in the county. He served from 1971 to 2009.
