1. Happy 100th Birthday Geraldine Fitzgerald! Head to the Station Branch of the Great Neck Library through August 29 as they celebrate the 100th birthdays of some of Hollywood's greatest stars. On Thursday, the film Dark Victory (1939, 104 min), starring Bette Davis, George Brent and Fitzgerald will be shown as part of the Station Summer Film Series. The plot revolves around a giddy socialite must come to terms with illness. Doors open at 1:45 p.m. and seating is limited.
2. This week's storms have raised concern about increased bacteria levels in swimming areas. Nassau County Department of Health closed down swimming at North Shore beaches Monday and Tuesday. Check back with Patch on the latest closings.
3. Promenade Night: Great Neck Plaza will hold their second Promenade Night of the season on Thursday in the Plaza on Middle Neck Road. If you think you can sing, start practicing for the karaoke contest to win prizes. Contest open to fist 20 who sign up.
4. Sands Point Preserve Tours of Falaise. Four guided tours run each Thursday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. through Oct. 31. Tours begin at Castlegould Visitor Center. Fee: adults $10; Group tours by reservation with Sands Point Preserve, 127 Middle Neck Rd. Call 571-7901 for more information.
