School Auditorium to be Named For Former Principal

Barbara Raber honored by the Great Neck school board Monday.

The Great Neck Board of Education approved Monday the naming of the Lakeville School auditorium in honor of former principal and longtime school district employee, Barbara A. Raber.

At a school board meeting at North Middle School, Raber was recognized for representing the ultimate in education.

Raber began at the elementary school in 1984 before retiring in 2010 as principal. With Raber at the helm, Lakeville School was named a 2009 Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, the Department of Education's highest award.

Barbara Berkowitz, board president, said she was always struck by Raber's welcoming ways and warmth, and that there will always be a place in Great Neck public schools for the former Lakeville School educator.

"It was such a huge part of your life and now I am so pleased that there is going to be a permanent marker there," said Berkowitz.
