LI Man Sentenced For Sexually Assaulting Women At Knifepoint

After robbing the two women, he sexually assaulted them, authorities say.

An Amityville man was sentenced to 20 years in prison on Tuesday for sexually assaulting two women at knifepoint in 2017.

Levar Burton, 25, was convicted on May 23 of robbery as a sexually motivated felony, first-degree robbery, first-degree sexual abuse and first-degree attempted sexual abuse.

“This predator attempted to take the dignity of his victims by assaulting them at knifepoint in the early morning hours,” said District Attorney Madeline Singas. “Because these courageous victims reported the attacks and testified at trial, they ensured that he will spend many years in prison for these despicable crimes.”

On Feb. 27, 2017, at 5:30 a.m., a 49-year-old woman was walking home from work in Kings Point when Burton approached her from behind, put a knife to her neck and demanded money. During the attack, Burton took her to the back of a house, rubbed his hands on her chest, unbuttoned her jeans and stole approximately $200 in cash. He told the woman to wait before she could leave and promise that she wouldn’t call the police.

Just a week later, on March 7, at 5 am, a 39-year-old woman was taking her morning walk on Middle Neck Road in Great Neck when Burton approached her from behind, put a knife to her neck, told her to be quiet and demanded money. Because the woman didn’t have any money, Burton took her two cell phones, put them on the ground and told her he would put them at a nearby synagogue, where police later found them. Burton then sexually assaulted the woman.
