North Hempstead’s “Yes We Can” Community Center Hosts Successful Summer Camp Program

The camp, which adhered to social distancing guidelines, had 50 children participating in an array of engaging and entertainment programs.

North Hempstead, NY - North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the North Hempstead Town Board were proud to host a 4-week summer day camp program for children throughout the Town. The camp, which strictly adhered to social distancing guidelines, had 50 children participating in an array of engaging and entertainment programs.
Weekly activities included:

  • A STEM program which incorporated science, crafts, and math to problem solve
  • Dance Battle Mondays where campers would work prepare weekly dance battles
  • Healthy Eating Wednesdays - focusing on making healthy and nutritious eating fun
  • Daily trips to Martin “Bunky” Reid Park to enjoy the outdoors

Throughout August the camp featured many special events. This included a workshop held by the “Yes We Can” Camp Director, who talked about the “Not In Our Town” initiative and bullying prevention. As part of the workshop the children created messages display messages of positivity and kindness. The Westbury Fire Department and Nassau County Police Department also stopped by to give an interactive fire safety and stranger danger presentation. The campers took part in the Long Island Nets’ fitness challenge which included a basketball clinic and special guest speakers, Vice President of Business Operations Alton Byrd and the Long Island Nets Mascot Dale the Eagle.
