North Hempstead Town's 2020 Budget Plan Submitted
Judi Bosworth, the Town of North Hempstead supervisor, has submitted her tentative budget plan to the town board and clerk.
MANHASSET, NY — North Hempstead town officials have unveiled a tentative $135 million budget for next year, which includes a 1.3 percent increase in spending over the current budget. No service cuts or layoffs are planned, and the budget includes investment in parks and roads.
Judi Bosworth, the town supervisor, submitted the tentative budget plan to the town board and clerk last week. The budget includes $69.3 million for the general fund, $38.3 million for the "town outside village fund" and $27.7 million for the 20 town–operated special districts.
The proposed budget stays under the state tax cap, officials said. Bosworth and the town board pledged to vote on the final budget Oct. 30, ahead of Election Day, where Bosworth, a Democrat, will face Republican David Redmond.

The plan calls for more resources devoted to upgrading facilities, officials said. Tax increases per household of $11.47 for the general fund and $6.78 for the TOV Fund are planned.
"This budget reflects the collective effort of our commissioners, and department heads as well as our finance team who crafted a budget that once again will stay under the tax cap," Bosworth said in a news release.

North Hempstead received a Aaa bond rating this month due to conservative and careful use of tax dollars, Bosworth highlighted.
"The new budget continues to hold the line on spending and I commend our commissioners for working with our dedicated finance team to make this budget happen," she said.
A work session was held last week on the proposal and two public budget hearings are planned this month, one on Oct. 10 and another on Oct. 24.
