North High Honors 76 Students With Quality of Life Awards
Ceremony Monday at school auditorium recognizes those for unique contributions to school environment.
Great Neck North High School honored 76 students Monday with an award unlike many but possibly one of the most important, according to some.
Created by the Great Neck Board of Education, the Quality of Life award honors seniors recommended by staff and faculty of North High for significant contributions to the quality of life at the high school.
"It is an award for perhaps one of the most important things we need to do in this world and yet it is a characteristic and a behavior that is rarely honored," said North Principal Bernard Kaplan at a ceremony in the school auditorium. "This is an award for building community."

Students honored are involved in a wide variety of school activities, including but not limited to sports, the arts, student government, cheerleading and the school newspaper.
School board President Barbara Berkowitz said the award is unique because it is not for any specific thing.

"You need to know that what all of you do to make a difference in the quality of life in this building shows everyday," said Berkowitz.
