With all due respect Sen. Martins, your energetic proposal for Belmont will fail as long as this President is in office. The failure of our economy goes far beyond the restructuring of a stadium or a racetrack. And you also omitted the plans for a casino at Belmont as well. Or is that off the table or simply left out. The commitment to create 3,500 jobs is quite a promise, considering no one will be able to afford going to the racetrack/soccer stadium, with ticket prices generally reaching 3 digit figures, and a hotel? And a casino Sen. Martins will do nothing but further decimate, a neighborhood already in disrepair. Take a look at every casino in New York. What similarity do the surrounding neighborhoods have? They are shoddy, neglected and dilapidated. Aqueduct, Empire at Yonkers, Atlantic City.....what has a casino done for those towns? Nothing but cause more people to gamble, who shouldn't be gambling in the first place. All for what, Mr. Martins? We don't need economic growth of that sort. We simply need a better economy, which in turn will provide and create jobs without such an undertaking as this. What is this going to costy taxpayers? You neglected to mention that as well. And please don't tell me it's going to reduce my taxes, I've heard that before!! The roads and infrastructure of Long Island were not intended to meet the needs of hotels, stadiums, arenas, etc. We all moved to Long Island to retain our lovely open spaces and the "suburban" feel that we pay heftily for in our property taxes. This is nothing more than a ploy, on your part, to get into bed with big developers. Let's call it what it is Sen. Martins! There is no benefit for any of us, other than you and your cronies. This is a disgrace and the surrounding community should be up in arms. More traffic jams, more drain on our systems, higher taxes, no real new jobs (well, no where near your estimates) and the end of our suburban oasis. We need a new president, a new senate and a new house of representatives, en toto!
Those who want to educate themselves should go to LIMatters.com and learn what the politicians have planned for we the people. I assure you, they will be the only ones benefitting from these deals.
