Great Neck South Student Named 2012 Siemens Competition Semifinalist

Great Neck South High School senior Joshua Jiang was one of 63 New York students named as semifinalists in the prestigious 2012 Siemens Competition in Math, Science & Technology, a premier science research competition for high school students.

Partnering with a student from Jericho, Jiang's project, "Implicating Domains I/LZI, II/LZII, and IV in the Nucleocytoplasmic Shuttling of JLP," sought to better understand the role that a particular protein plays in a biochemical pathway important in a variety of diseases, according to the school district website.

Sixteen of the 63 New York regional finalists were named as finalists last month.

The Siemens Foundation will announce individual and team winners and present scholarships ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 on Dec. 4.
