Student Delegates Make BOE Debut
Great Neck School District Board of Education continues with longtime tradition of involving students in decision-making process.
Continuing a tradition which began in 1975, delegates to the student body of Great Neck schools attended their first Board of Education meeting Monday at Great Neck North High School.
The 21 students secondary students, selected by their classmates, represent Great Neck North and South High Schools, the Village School and each of two middle schools.
Through one-year terms, the delagtes will attend public meetings through June 30 serving in a consultative and advisory capacity without any voting rights, and not as members of the BOE.

The students are encouraged by the BOE to speak on business items under consideration before discussion by the general public and before the Board votes. Prior to each meeting, each student recieves minutes of the past meeting and the public agenda for the coming meeting.
The delagtes report regularly to their respective student governments in order to keep students informed of current issues and to secure the opinion of the general student body on those issues.
