This Weekend: Blazers Go For 2-0; Free Ice Skating

5 things to do this weekend in Great Neck.

1. Ice Rink Open House: A free Skate School open house is scheduled at the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Learn about skate school classes and hockey programs. Call 487-2975 Ext. 114 for more information.

2. High School Football: looks to remain unbeaten in football Saturday in a home game against Roslyn at 1:30 p.m. The Blazers  against St. Dominic last week in Oyster Bay. Click on the video to the right to see GNN's game-winning drive last week.

3. Memorial Blood Drive: The Lakeview Fire Department will be celebrating the life of former Chief Robert J. DeAngelis, Jr. who was killed Sept. 11, 2001 during the attack on the World Trade Center. In his memory, the department is sponsoring a blood drive at its headquarters from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

4. USMMA Acceptance Day Events: A series of events are scheduled to honor the 278 Plebe candidates that will be accepted into the Regiment of Midshipmen this weekend. On Friday, the MV Liberty Star Plaque and Key Ceremony to King's Point at 4:30 p.m. The event includes an appearence by U.S. Transportation Sec. Ray LaHood. At 7:30 p.m. Friday, the USMMA Band and the Nassau Police Pipe and Drums at the Ceremony of Beating Retreat. On Saturday, the Acceptence Day Ceremony and Parade begins at 9 a.m. at Tomb Field.

5. Veterans Social Club Meeting: On Friday at the , Former Navy officer Robert Zucker will share his story about one of the most significant events in U.S. history that never happened — the invasion of Japan during WWII. More than four million soldiers, sailors and Marines were mobilized for this invasion. Zucker will detail the events surrounding this important time in U.S. history. Refreshments will be served courtesy of Atria Great Neck.
