Wonderworks Offers Special "Exercise with Your Child Week" Activities, Back-to-School Kids

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 82 percent of children between the ages of 5 -11 years old are considered to be in “very good health.” To emphasize the importance of children’s health and exercise, parents across the country will celebrate Exercise with Your Child week this August. Keep bodies of all ages active during Exercise with Your Child Week, August 2 – 8, 2015 at Wonderworks’ attractions and exhibits in Syracuse, New York.

“Staying fit and healthy is paramount, especially in young children who depend on their parents for guidance in these areas,” affirms Nicole Montgomery, director of operations at WonderWorks Destiny. “At Wonderworks, we offer the Physical Challenge Zone and more, which not only utilizes the body for exercise, but also the mind. During Exercise with Your Child Week, participants of all ages can register, complete the Get Fit Challenge and win a patch.”

According to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, only one in three children are physically active each day. To improve the statistics, Wonderworks made physical activity and learning fun. Families are invited to the WonderWorks Destiny Get Fit Challenge! Complete the challenge course and get a “Mission Complete” patch! Your Get Fit Challenge Map will be emailed to you. Print it out, complete the course, turn in the completed map to admissions and get your patch! Parents and children at Wonderworks exhibits can expect:

· Canyon Climb. Standing 70 feet tall, visitors will explore 3 levels of ropes as they encounter over 81 different obstacles. Activities include swinging steps, lily pads, a tremor bridge and more.

· Lazer-Tag Arena. The object is to outplay, outlast and outshoot the other players. Lazer-Tag combines innovative technology to provide players with a one-of-a-kind interactive experience.

· Speed of Light. The speed of light test challenges body’s speed and agility as participants move quickly. Light moves at exactly 299,792,458 meters per second. As the clock runs down, test your speed and reflexes and press the buttons as they light up on the matrix. Try to beat the clock!

· Virtual Sports. Virtual Sports allows you to test your athletic skills on a baseball, football, and soccer field by testing your pitch speed and more. For example, how fast was it? Was it a ball, strike, or did you give up a homerun?

· Xtreme 360 Bikes. Buckle into your bike and start pedaling! The movement of your bike depends on how fast and how hard you pedal. The challenge is to try to generate enough power to spin a complete 360-degree revolution right back to where you started.
