5 Residents Escape Dix Hills House Fire

The blaze broke out Tuesday morning.

Five residents were able to safely escape a Dix Hills house fire that broke out Tuesday morning.

According to fire officials, about 40 Dix Hills firefighters and EMS personnel responded to a Caledonia Road home shortly before 6 a.m. to find the fire coming from a second floor bedroom.

Firefighters had the fire under control within about 45 minutes and kept it contained to the bedroom. The blaze caused heavy smoke damage to the second floor.

The fire appears to be accidental in nature, fire officials say.

The Melville Fire Department provided assistance at the scene with a Rapid Intervention Team and the Greenlawn Fire Department provided standby coverage. The Town of Huntington Cyanide Response Team was also activated.

Fire units were under the command of Chief Robert Fling.

Huntington Town Fire Marshal and Suffolk Police Arson Squad are investigating the fire.
