Cyber Safety in a Social Media World
Parents learn about keeping their children safe on the Internet during HHH presentation.

The Half Hollow Hills School District and REACH/CYA recently hosted ‘Cyber Safety,’ a presentation to educate parents about the good, bad and ugly aspects of social media.
The program, put on by Associate Director for Community Services Cindy Pierce-Lee from SCOPE Education Services on Oct. 25 at teaches parents to expand their knowledge about the ways in which they can monitor their children’s activities in cyber venues.
Topics included cyber bullying, instant messaging, chat rooms, cell phones, emails, texts, Twitter, blogs, You Tube and sexting.
As a follow-up to this Cyber Safety presentation, Pierce-Lee will be visiting fifth graders in all seven Half Hollow Hills elementary schools for discussion-driven workshops. The goal is that by eliciting student knowledge about these activities, students will learn guidelines for staying safe online with all technology, as well as what to do if ever they are victims of online bullying, harassment or stalking.
