This week’s Antique of the Week is a 1900’s gas stove and oven, commonly referred to at the time as a “gas range.” The White Star Heet-Master is made of porcelain and cast iron standing 4 feet tall measuring 43 inches wide and 22 inches deep.
This cooking wonder was originally marketed to housewives everywhere with promises of convenience and economical benefits as well as aesthetic elegance.

According to the August 30th 1927 edition of “The Reading Eagle” an ad by Snyder’s Hardware store in Reading, Pennsylvania reads, “The ‘Heet Master’ oven control on the White Star is a wonder. Simply turn on the pointer-put in your whole meal and come back in 3 to 5 hours and find your meal deliciously cooked ready to serve. And for baking pies, cakes or pastry, well-you simply can’t beat it. Never a baking failure. The White Star Gas Range is a ‘Thing of beauty and a joy forever.’”
The April 20th 1927 edition of “Alton Evening Telegraph” in Illinois advertised a limited time offer of free linoleum flooring for your kitchen with the purchase of a Deluxe White Star Gas Range. “The world's most beautiful gas range—all porcelain, even the grates, burners and spacious cooking top. The White Star, winner of this year’s Blue Ribbon-cooks whole meals without watching with the Heet Master automatic oven control. Fresh air oven gas saving burners; no screws or hinges in sight; appears to be moulded in one piece of white porcelain-a marvelous value.”

The White Star Heet Master is priced to sell at the Antique Market for $550 (linoleum floor tiling not included) and would make a great decorative piece for a bed and breakfast, historical home or for anyone interested in a piece of Americana.
