A Good Employer Offers Praise

I have been known to be a squeaky wheel when I feel there is a need to make noise. In fact I have a responsibility to share my opinion and fight against what I think is wrong. For instance, when the MTA convinced our State leaders to hit Long Islanders with a business crushing commuter tax, my colleagues and I joined the roar to have the tax taken away. It may have taken several months but our voice was heard and the MTA tax has melted away.

As American citizens and taxpayers, we sometimes forget that when we question our elected officials, those men and women we hire with our vote, they do listen. It is not only our responsibility to tell those in office what we are unhappy with but as with any good employer our responsibility is to compliment those working for us when they do a good job.

One elected official worthy of a compliment is our own United States Senator Chuck Schumer. Senator Schumer recently wholeheartedly threw his support toward obtaining very substantial funding, more than a billion dollars in repairs and new construction, to help Long Island complete 90 much needed projects that will create better highways, roads and public transportation.

Senator Schumer’s bill will also put tens of thousands of construction and industry support workers back on the job. Excellent roads, less traffic, better public transportation and needed jobs, this is just what Long Island and every New York community needs to get us back on track.

The more than 300 corporations and not for profits represented by the Melville Chamber of Commerce join me in applauding Senator Schumer on his perseverance on behalf of us, his constituents. We have called him to say we are pleased with what he is doing and suggest that our neighbors make a call too.
