Father's Day Fun Guide!

This year, diss the traditional Father's Day plans of a tie or golf memorabilia and take your dad on an adventure instead!

Every year on Father’s day the question comes to mind, what to do for dear old Dad? This year, diss the traditional plans of a tie or golf memorabilia and take your dad on an adventure instead! Try one of these ideas:

If he loves fishing:
And you don’t own a boat, take the ferry out to Fire Island or board a fishing boat right from the South Shore. Captree State Park has open boats you can board for a small fee. For example Captain Gillen II  is $42 adult, $39 for seniors $25 for 12 and under—comes with bait, tackle and rod.

He loves fishing but hates boats, try the Aquarium:
You can still see fish! Take a day trip out east the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center (formely known as Atlantis Marine World) in Riverhead. Great for Dad and kids of all ages to experience together for a memorable Father’s Day. The aquarium charges $22.50 for adults $19.50 for children and seniors (this price only includes the aquarium and not the exhibits).

Father’s Day comes at a good time of year, go to the Beach:
The boardwalks are a great place to walk and talk and connect with Dad. Buy him an ice cream and take in the sunshine for a wonderful day together. Some beaches even allow you to take the dogs! Your dad will appreciate this time you are dedicating together and will enjoy taking the dog(s) for a walk on the beach! My beach suggestions: Robert Moses, Sunken Meadow State Park and Bayville Beach on the North Shore.

The best cost effective meal has always been the Picnic!:
Instead of taking your dad out to lunch pack a picnic for the entire family to enjoy! Bring a ball and Dad and have a blast in the open air. My park suggestions: Blydenburgh County Park or Heckscher State Park.

Golf doesn’t have to be lost on Father’s Day, try mini golf with Dad:
Mini golf is a fun and relatively cheap way to enjoy an afternoon with your dad. You can even let him win for his big day! Some of my favorites: Eisenhower Park  (also has a batting cage and other activities), Heartland Golf and Skydrive Golf Center

Take him out to the ball game:
Yes—major league tickets can be a little pricey, but tickets at minor league games, like the Long Island Ducks, cost much less (around $11 to $15) and you may enjoy it even more. Pack a lunch and snack and you have a great Father’s Day activity!

Whatever you do this year for Father’s Day, so long it is from the heart, there is no doubt Dad will appreciate it! Happy Father’s Day to all of the Dad’s out there.
