LI Pulse Magazine Holds Big Night LI Fashion Event
Big Night Long Island proves to be a pinnacle event for Fashion Week for local Long Islanders.

Manhattan may have its Fall Fashion Week, but Nassau and Suffolk now have a show of their own. It’s called Big Night Long Island. And at Four Food Studio in Melville on Thursday evening, that’s exactly what it turned out to be: one big night for Long Islanders interested in fashion, networking, or just spending an evening out before the start of the chilly fall weather soon to come.
About 1,000 people jammed into the popular, stylish restaurant along Route 110 to see and be seen, and to see a fashion show featuring 10 models, eight women and two men. The event, sponsored Pulse, a glossy monthly fashion magazine based in Patchogue village, drew 500 people to the very same restaurant last year.
Despite the hub-hub going on around her, Pulse founder, editor, and publisher, Nada Marjanovich, sat calmly in the rear of the restaurant, enjoying a cocktail. Her demeanor was understandable. Pulse puts on one “cover party” a month, to celebrate the release of the publication. The difference Thursday, Marjanovich said, was that this event included a fashion show. ”September is the high holy month for the fashion world,” Marjanovich said, noting the stir created by Fashion Week in Manhattan and the desire of both men and women to look their stylish best, as the summer heat fades into a crisp fall.

The models wore clothes designed by Long Island boutiques, from as far away as Mattituck and as close as Roslyn. Then there was Karin M. Caro, president of Bohemia-based Blu Chip Marketing, who wore a light summery outfit designed by her 11-year-old daughter, Brielle (Brielle Caro is to have a fashion show of her own Sept. 27 at Oheka Castle in Huntington). Arrow Security of Bohemia, owned by Caro and her husband A.J, Caro, provided security for the event, and BluChip contributed to the marketing effort.
“It’s just a lovely night to be out enjoying this weather and all these fine people here,” said Karin Caro, who networked, posed for photos with friends and some staff from Blu Chip, and seemed to revel in the good spirit of the event.

Pulse advertises the event as “Long Island’s biggest fashion show.” There were not only dresses and suits that were modeled but handbags and optical ware as well. The approximately 20-minute fashion show was electrifying to many in the crowd. But just being there was enough for most.
Donna Martini, a wellness expert, life coach, author and owner of DM Enterprises, took one look around at the crowd, the clothing on sale at booths nearby, and the number of friends and associates who smiled at her as they passed by. She declared herself happy. ”It’s a girl’s night out for me,” Martini said.
