Spring cleaning is a grueling process that some people try to avoid. But after reading this post you will look forward to spring cleaning and all the money it can save you…and potentially make you!
- Organizing can save you money: Thought you lost your favorite earrings? Forgot about the extra shampoo you bought a month ago because it got pushed to the back of the cabinet? Organizing can help you locate things you thought you lost or forgot you had bought. This can save you a significant amount of money once you realize you don’t have to purchase these things after all.
- Scavenger Hunt: Hunting through old purses, wallets and backpacks can help you score some forgotten cash, gift cards or lotto tickets! It also can help you collect all the old change you will never use and turn it into cash!
- Sell your old things: is there value in that old necklace you are just never going to wear? Or in those dishes you are going to give away? Find antiques or valuables that you have no use for anymore but don’t have the heart to throw them away? Check out sites like eBay, Amazon, Craig’s List, Etsy, Sell.com and more!
*Some of these sites like Craig’s list and Etsy have pick-up options so the customer can pick up the item if they are local, so neither of you have to worry about shipping fees! - Do it the old school way: Have a garage sale! Once you have piled your old stuff together, why not have a garage sale to sell some of it! It’s a good excuse to get rid of things you don’t use, make some money and get some sunshine! Whatever you don’t sell at the garage sale you can try selling it online with the sites mentioned in tip number 3!
- Fashion swap: Have old clothes that no longer fit or don’t work with your style anymore? Check out swapstyle.com, where you can list your clothes and either swap your clothes with other people or you can sell your clothes for cash.
- Efficiency: Things work better when they are clean. If you dust the coils behind your fridge it will run more efficiently and save you money on your electric bill. This applies for so many things around your house, including; dusting off light bulbs to give more light, cleaning the oven and stove to make it heat more evenly and cleaning the lint tray in the dryer (which can also cause a fire so make sure to clean that out more than once a year)!
- Food drive: Make sure to reorganize your food items! Although you may wind up disposing of what may have gone bad, you will be able to easily locate what you have to cook and stop wasting food because it is pushed to the back of the pantry! Also you can save money by not having to re-buy things you already have but forgot about!
- Computer clean-up: This may seem silly but dust can cause a computer to overheat, run slower and not have as long of a lifespan. Make sure to dust the computer (especially the area where the fan is) and the keyboard to make sure you don’t have to dish out money for repairs or a new machine.
FYI: Although all of our tips are going to save you (and even make you) money these cleaning supplies may cost a pretty penny. Why not try making some of your own? Most cleaning agents are things you already have lying around the house, like vinegar, lemon juice and baking soda! It’s easy, cheap, and natural! Check out this article from about.com to find out how and what you can use these things on!
