Although Yom Kippur is aptly called the Day of Atonement and Judgment, don't let that heavy tone get you down. View Yom Kippur as an opportunity to enter the New Year with a clean slate and refresh your relationship with the Divine. It's interesting that the fast is followed by a festive meal; we are confident that our appeals were accepted, so we rejoice. After all, there is nothing more empowering and worth celebrating than the ability to begin anew. May we all be sealed in the Book of Life!

Just reminder that this evening's holiday candle lighting time is 6:28 in Huntington station, NY. Fast of Yom Kippr ends on Wednesday 7:25pm with the sound of the Shofar blast.
Have a Shabbat Shalom & a meaningful Yom Kippur

This evening sanctify the holiness of this time by lighting a candle with the special Yom Kippur blessings:  

1.  Transliteration of the first blessing:  Ba-ruch A-tah A-do-nai E-lo-hei-nu Me-lech ha-olam a-sher ki-deshanu be-mitz-vo-tav ve-tzvi-va-nu le-had-lik ner shel Yom Ha-Ki-pu-rim.  

Translation:  Blessed are You, L-rd, our G-d, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments and has commanded us to kindle the light of Yom Kippur.  

2.  Transliteration of the second blessing:  Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-hei-nu Me-lech ha-o-lam she-he-che-ya-nu ve-ki-yi-ma-nu ve-hi-gi-ya-nu liz-man ha-zeh.  

Translation:  Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe, Who has granted us life, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this occasion.

If you have two Jews, you will have at least three opinions. I think that this is even more so when you have two Israelis. To get the majority here to agree is truly a rare occasion. So it was with great joy that I read today that two-thirds of the Jews in Israel will fast this Yom Kippur, and that over eighty percent will use the day either to pray, or for general introspection.

     I could understand if this great majority were agreeing to go to a party, or to take a vacation, but these hundreds of thousands of Jews are agreeing to give up all food and water for 25 hours, and only because it is a holy day…a day that brings compassion and forgiveness for our transgressions.

     Surely G-d, You can bring Your redemption now, please.
