Oh, what a beautiful morning it will be when Musical Theatre will perform Rodgers and Hammerstein’s on Dec. 3 and 4.
The original Broadway production opened March 1943 at the St. James Theatre, directed by Rouben Mamoulian and choreographed by Agnes de Mille. It was a box office smash, with 2,212 performances. "Oklahoma!" was the first musical to have its score recorded, creating the first cast album of a musical. This production did not receive any theatrical awards since the Tony Awards were not given out post-war. Oklahoma! had numerous revivals, and the movie version was adapted in 1955 starring Gordon MacRae as Curly and Shirley Jones in her debut as Laurey.
The simple lives of families—the farmers and cowboys—on the rugged landscape of the rural state of Oklahoma is brought to life by Candlewood students.
The show is headed by Director Doug Gerbino, Ms. Krawitz, Ms. Arth, Ms. Marsh, and Ms. Moreno.
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. this Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $10.
