Students Focus on Black History Month
First graders in Chestnut Hill report on contributions of African Americans to the U.S.

At Chestnut Hill Elementary, first grade Teacher Paula Giugliano used an interdisciplinary curriculum approach, combining social studies, research and English language arts, resulting in a variety of student presentations about famous African Americans.
Some of the individuals students chose to report on were Civil Rights activist Martin Luther King Jr., aviator Elizabeth Coleman, humanitarian Harriet Tubman and basketball legend Patrick Ewing.
Half Hollow Hills Superintendent of Schools Kelly Fallon also discussed the “contributions of African Americans to our country’s history and identity,” in a letter to the community earlier this month.
