Dix Hills Fire Department Installs Officers for 2016
Crews who assisted in a April 2015 house fire were also recognized for their heroic actions.
The Dix Hills Fire Department recently installed officers for 2016 at their annual inspection and installation of officers event held at headquarters.
At the ceremony, held at headquarters, members of the department also received awards for various pre-hospital saves. The highlight of the presentations was the working structure fire that occurred on April 4, 2015 on Kenmore Street.
On that night, the Dix Hills Fire Department rescued and revived an elderly man who was trapped inside the home. Firefighters found the man outside the bedroom and pulled him to safety. The man was in cardiac arrest and was revived by Dix Hills Rescue Squad EMS personnel. EMS administered CPR and a cyanide antidote kit to reverse the effects of smoke inhalation, according to fire officials. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip.
Certificates of Merit, Pre-Hospital Save and Unit Citations were presented to the crews for their heroic actions on that night.

Company Two: Captain Brett Tepe, First Lieutenant Howard Kaplan, Second Lieutenant TJ Farrell, Secretary Liz Mene, Treasurer Marc Ligator, Sgt. at Arms Ray Mahdesian.
Company Three: Captain Tony deCesare, First Lieutenant Matthew Montag, Second Lieutenant Christopher Eager, Secretary John Marshall, Treasurer John Brower, Sgt. at Arms Thomas McClane.
Rescue Squad: Captain Matthew Mattone, Company One Lieutenant Meagan Pereira, Company Two Lieutenant Eytan Pick, Company Three Lieutenant Jessica Mattes, Secretary John Marshall, Treasurer John Brower.
Fire Police: Captain Thomas Smyth, Lieutenant Thomas McClane, Secretary Sue Montalvo.
