Kindergarten students get hands-on experience in the democratic process.

Kindergarten students in Carlene Foy's class at experienced the election process for the first time by voting on their favorite school program - art, physical education, music or library.

The democratic process was very realistic for the class, as Foy assigned a police officer, poll worker, and election judge. Each student presented identification, signed a register, was given a paper ballot, then entered the class closet, which was converted into a voting booth, to cast their vote, and emerged smiling, rooting for their choice! The votes were revealed and marked on an oversized graph. Gym class came out on top in the vote.

Students then practiced their math and English skills by interpreting the poll results from graphs.
