Independence Day circa 1865-style at Old Bethpage Village Restoration

Old Bethpage Village Restoration, a unique and comprehensive recreation of a 19th-century Long Island village, will host an Independence Day celebration circa 1865, on July 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

As part of the day's festivities, the 150 acre Village will celebrate the return of Civil War veterans, the preservation of the Union, and the 89th anniversary of the nation's independence. Other activities will include traditional fiddle music; miltary drills; parades and ceremonies; a reading of the Declaration of Independence; a brass band concert; an all-star "base ball" game; and children's games of the time.

Guests are invited to bring their own picnic lunches to the “Temperance Society Picnic” behind the Noon Inn, where the sounds of old-fashioned fiddle music can be heard from 10:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. An inspiring, traditional Independence Day Parade with a marching band, the local militia and OBVR “residents” will start at 2 p.m., while the Old Bethpage Village Brass Band will entertain visitors with historical musical selections behind the Noon Inn at 3:15 p.m.

As an added attraction, an 1860s period All Star Base Ball game will be played at the Hewlett Field at 11 a.m. and an 1880s period All Star Base Ball game at 2 p.m. These games will feature some of the finest fielders and batters from OBVR's 1864 League Base Ball Clubs and 1887 League Base Ball Clubs recreating the exciting matches held in Brooklyn and Queens in the 1800s.
