Gung Ho Fat Choy

Otsego Elementary students celebrate the Chinese New Year.

The lunar new year, most celebrated of all traditional Chinese holidays, was celebrated on Monday, January 23—the year of the dragon. Many customs and symbols are associated with this holiday, also known as the Spring festival.

Red, thought to be a lucky color, was the chosen to be the color of the day for Jacinta Perini’s kindergarten class at Otsego Elementary School. The class paraded throughout the school and visited classrooms to show many symbolic items: lanterns, dolls, red money envelopes, books, and of course, a dragon.

Their parting words…”Gung Ho Fat Choy!” Meaning, happy new year.
