Pigs, Pumpkins and Pies
Melville farm celebrates two decades of pumpkin picking, hayrides and petting zoos with weekend festival.
Everything you would expect at a fall festival was front and center in Melville this weekend. The hayrides, pumpkin picking and fresh baked pies - all present and accounted for.
The is held at every weekend in October, and you may have to stop by each and every week to enjoy, experience, and eat everything White Post offers.
There's the aforementioned hayrides and pumpkin patch. Carve them up, paint them, whatever you want as Halloween approaches. Of course, that's just the tip of the iceberg (or cornfield).

"You spend maybe 15 minutes picking pumpkins, now what?" said White Post manager Ron Brigati. "There's only so much time for that, and there's so much more here [to do]." Brigati adds that the pumpkin crop is just fine, not affected by all the rain going back to .
One of the highlights is the brand new aviary. At "Ronnie's Birdie Landing," you are amongst the birds. Hold a stick of bird seed, and a flock of 'Budgies' will be on your arm, shoulder, maybe your head as they look for a snack.

"This is weird but they're friendly so it's ok," said Meghan Baty, 10, of Seaford.
Moving on from the birds, the animals only get bigger, as antelopes, goats and zebras highlight the petting zoo. Then there's the pigs. Some are for petting, others for performing. The Pork Chop Review features hogs jumping, dancing, and generally going hog wild for the audience.
Parents are thrilled to take a load off, and watch the various stage and magic shows running throughout the day. Then there's the food, with huge lines for the fresh roasted corn, 'crazy potatos' and homemade fudge.
"This is what I'm here for, I'm hungry taking [the kids] all over all day," said Russell Taubin of Dix Hills.
Enjoy it now, Russell, as it'll be time to break out the snow shovels before too long. But who knows? At this rate, maybe Santa will have to ditch all those layers and put on the sunscreen come December. We can only hope.
