Local Swimmers Raise $45,000 For Cancer Research
Children swim a mile to raise money for charity.

On Sunday November 9th over 120 swimmers from the TEAM SUFFOLK swim team in Dix Hills participated in their annual Making Waves to Fight Cancer charity swim sponsored by Swim Across America. This year’s total of more than $45,000 was a new team record.
The Nassau/Suffolk chapter of Swim Across America was founded in 2001 and have raised over $6 million for local beneficiaries in support of cancer research, prevention and treatment. These include Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, The Children’s Hospital at Montefiore, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and the Miracle Pavillion at Mercy Medical Center.
Team Suffolk has been in existence for over 20 years and during that time have had swimmers achieve top 16 national times, have been invited to Olympic trials and they are currently the reigning Suffolk County Swimming Champions and 13 time Suffolk County Relay Carnival Champions.

Each year Team Suffolk seniors attend the most competitive colleges in the country whether or not they continue to swim in college. Some of the most recent graduates are now attending Princeton, University of Pennsylvania, Boston College, Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame, Stanford, Cornell, Dartmouth, and the U.S. Naval Academy.
