Melville Brush Fire Caused By Children, Firefighters Say

A brush fire in Melville was believed to be accidentally caused by children playing with sparklers on Friday afternoon, fire officials say.

The fire occurred in a 50 by 25-foot area in between two houses on Holly Court at around 2 p.m. The Melville Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze in 40 minutes, causing no damage to either home.

Firefighters were at the scene with two engines, a brush truck and two ambulances, which under the command of Assistant Chiefs Chris Nolan and David Kaplan

Melville firefighters also responded to a brush fire on Tuesday, April 11. The 75 by 75-foot fire occurred on Sweet Hollow Road.

Due to warmer temperatures and dryer conditions, firefighters are urging residents to use caution and practice fire safety outdoors and around wooded areas.
