Fortune Names Henry Schein a "World's Most Admired" Company
The Melville medical supplies company takes top ranking for social responsibility.
Generous is not the word typically used to describe corporate America, but one Melville company is setting an example of what ethical business practices are all about.
Henry Schein, a wholesale medical supplies company, has once again been named to Fortune's list of the "World's Most Admired Companies." The company, which this year, tops the list for social responsibility and global competitiveness.
"Our first-place ranking again in the categories of Social Responsibility and Global Competitiveness continues to demonstrate that a company truly can 'do well by doing good,' and that an active commitment to corporate social responsibility is good business,” Stanley Bergman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Henry Schein, Inc., said in a release.

Through its Henry Schein Cares program, the company has helped to increase access to care for underserved populations around the world. The company, now in 25 countries, works with non-profit organizations within its surrounding regions to provide medical and dental care to those in need.
When disaster struck New Orleans during Katrina in 2005, Henry Schein was there giving out thousands of toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes and care to those stranded in the Super Dome. They also loaned equipment to doctors’ offices that had been destroyed.

Back at home, the company helps underserved Long Islanders through its The company regularly donates flu shots and dental care to children in need.
Last month, Henry Schein was given the opportunity to ring the NASDAQ bell for its efforts on "Give Kids a Smile Day," in which it provided dental services and educational programs for under-served and disabled children, who often face challenges in accessing dental care. Its team organized school brushing demonstrations, community screening and treatment programs and free private dental care.
