Melville's Total Technology Solutions Meets with LI Water District Commissioners to Review Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery
Melville's Total Technology Solutions recently met with LI water distict commissioners to discuss strategies supporting business continuity.

November 12, 2014; Franklin Square, NY – Given the unpredictability of security in today’s world, Total Technology Solutions of Melville, NY recently met with Long island water district commissioners serving on Nassau Suffolk Water Commissioners’ Association (NSWCA) at a recent Association meeting to discuss the topic, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery. Featuring discussions by Total Technology Solutions Managing Partner Tim McKnight of Melville, NY and Director of Client Services Dan Bernard of Rocky Point, NY, this presentation was part of the Association’s ongoing Educational Series.
Mr. McKnight pointed out, “optimally configured and well-protected networks are far tougher for saboteurs and hackers to penetrate. Safeguarding Long Island’s water districts against such attacks as sabotage, aggressive viruses or data breaches begins with a comprehensive Continuity and Recovery Plan (C&RP), and Information Technology is the lifeline to ensure that water delivery will be unaffected and uninterrupted.”
“If a district’s Information Technology (IT) network is compromised or goes down, whether from natural disasters like Superstorm Sandy or aggressive intrusions, public welfare is at risk,” stated NSWCA 1st Vice-President and Massapequa Water District Commissioner Thomas Hand.

NSWCA member and Commissioner of South Farmingdale Water District Gary Brosnan cited fiscal responsibility. “Commissioner-run districts operate within approved budgets,” said Mr. Brosnan “Each district is constantly mindful of expenses, and every program must be accurate in scope and costs.”
Mr. Bernard explained, “There could be significant cost savings with a Continuity and Recovery Plan in place that makes intrusion prevention more effective and intrusion detection far easier.”

Howard Abbondondelo, NSWCA President and Albertson Water Commissioner, commented, “Even though no commissioner-run water district had interrupted water delivery during Superstorm Sandy, the NSWCA endorses having Continuity and Recovery Plan plans in place for all water districts. The safety of the public is paramount.”
