Police ID Pedestrian Killed By Accused Drunken Driver On LI

The pedestrian was trying to cross the road on Friday night when he was hit by a car driven by a drunken driver, police say.

MELVILLE, NY — Suffolk police on Tuesday released the identity of the man who was recently hit and killed by a man accused of driving while drunk in Melville, police said.

Kevin Higgins, 69, who was homeless, was killed in a crash on Broadhollow Road in Melville on Friday, police said.

Shane Decamp, 48, of Coram, was driving a 2016 Mazda CX-5 southbound in front of 400 Broadhollow Road around 9:35 p.m. Friday when his vehicle struck Higgins, who was trying to cross the roadway from east to west, police said. Higgins was pronounced dead at the scene.

Decamp was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.
