Students Learn About 9/11 in HHH
District remembers World Trade Center attacks with specially designed lessons.
To commemerrate the tenth anniversary of September 11th, Half Hollow Hills Director of Social Studies Lorraine Lupinske designed a appropriate for every grade level, taught on Friday Sept. 9.
“The primary focus and common theme throughout the lessons will be the manner in which our nation was united as one and the spirit of volunteerism and service that emerged on the days that followed September 11,” Lupinske said.
This significant day in American history also marks the remembrances of those who perished in the horrific events of that morning. The school district lost 26 residents within the community, including six alumni.
High School West Alumni who perished on 9/11:
from the Class of 1987, Martin Lizzul;
from the Class of 1980, Karen Klitzman;
from the Class of 1989, Scott Weingard.
High School East Alumni who perished on 9/11:
from the Class of 1983, Tom Collins;
from the Class of 1983, Christopher Panatier;
from the Class of 1979, Edward Fergus.
