Trapped Driver Rescued Following Northern State Crash
BREAKING: The driver struck a tree on Thursday morning, fire officials say.
Firefighters rescued a driver who was trapped in his vehicle after crashing into a tree on the Northern State Parkway on Thursday morning.
According to fire officials, the crash occurred in the eastbound lanes in Dix Hills, between the Deer Park Avenue and Commack Road exits, after 3 a.m.
About 30 Dix Hills firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and used heavy rescue extrication tools to rescue the trapped driver. Firefighters removed the roof, doors and pushed back the dashboard to free the driver.

The driver, who was in stable condition, was transported to Huntington Hospital by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad.
Firefighters were at the scene with three heavy rescue trucks, an ambulance, paramedic and first responder units. All units were under the command of Chief Tom Napolitano and Assistant Chiefs Alan Berkowitz and Brett Tepe.
