Trick-or-Treating From Melville to the Military

Faber Orthodontics is sending pieces of home to soldiers in the U.S. military this Halloween, candy pieces that is.

The dental practice is hosting its third Annual Smiles Change Lives Candy Exchange event on Friday, Nov. 4. Doctors Richard and Zackary Faber will be donating $1 for every pound of candy collected to the Long Island chapter of Smiles Change Lives non-profit program, which provides essential orthodontic treatment for children of families who cannot afford braces and other dental care.

The collected candy will then be shipped to military units abroad through Operation Troop Aid which will deliver the candy overseas to U.S. combat troops.

Last year, the event collected 1,548.8 lbs of candy which resulted in a donation of $1,548.80. The orthodontics practice is aiming to beat last year's record.

After trick-or-treating this Halloween, bring any left over candy to 425 Broadhollow Road, Suite 125 in Melville on Friday to have it weighed, packaged and shipped. 

Last year, Robin Paola, a music teacher in the Kings Park school district, donated 831 pounds of candy.
