Ultra-Thin Crust Pizza at Spuntino's in Dix Hills

Light and spicy "Fra Diavolo" pizza is great on taste and kind to the waistline.

This time of year we all end up eating a bit too much with all the holidays, and the waistline suffers.  Go ahead and start planning a New Year's weight loss resolution, but now is the time to eat light, in between all the parties.

When your busy schedule calls for going out to grab a bite and you want something light, you probably wouldn't think of a pizzeria; but believe it, Spuntino's Pizzeria and Restaurant may be just the spot.

Eating a light and spicy Ultra Thin Crust "Fra Diavolo" pizza may just hit the spot at this restaurant that serves a large menu of all of the traditional Italian dishes too.

What's On It:  The ultra-thin crust individual size pizza has tomato basil sauce, homemade mozzarella, crumbled sausage and sliced hot cherry peppers on top.

How's it taste: The sausage and peppers give a little kick to the fragrant tomato basil sauce and the fresh creamy mozzarella perfectly balances all the flavors. What will have you coming back for more of this light and heavenly "Fra Diavolo" ( Italian for "Brother Devil") pizza is the crispy, melt-in-your-mouth crust.  If you're not into spice but want that guilt-free pizza experience, then try the "Alla Basilico" with chicken, mushrooms and homemade pesto sauce.

Spuntino's offers eight different individual ultra-thin crust pizzas, so if your family or group wants to try a little of this and a little of that, then order a few different pies and share; it's more fun that way too.  The pies are so thin that they cool off quickly, so you may want to eat in the restaurant for the best experience; but they have fast delivery too.

Sides:  If you're committed to eating light, then stick with with one of their salads and order the dressing on the side:  Spuntino, Caesar, Tri-Color, Gorgonzola, or Cold Antipasto are all good choices.

When asked what was their best thing on the menu, the friendly guy behind the counter simply said, "our Grandma's pizza is very popular and the best around."
