The YMCA of Long Island Announces Try the Y Tuesdays to Promote Healthy Living

The YMCA is offering free admissions on Tuesdays throughout August.

The YMCA of Long Island on Monday announced a new program to boost healthy living on Long Island.

Try the Y Tuesdays offers full-day free admission to all Long Island residents every Tuesday throughout the month of August at all five YMCA-LI locations: Huntington YMCA, YMCA East Hampton REC, YMCA at Glen Cove, Great South Bay YMCA and Patchogue Family YMCA. Meant to encourage the entire Long Island community to partake in a more active lifestyle, guests will be given the opportunity to experience all of the amenities the YMCA has to offer, including classes, state-of-the-art cardio and fitness centers and other membership perks, at no cost.

According to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition, only one in three children are physically active every day. Moreover, less than 5 precent of adults participate in 30 minutes of physical activity each day; only one in three adults receive the recommended amount of physical activity each week.

“YMCA of Long Island is actively seeking ways to help promote an active lifestyle for adults and children of all ages,” said CEO and President of the YMCA of Long Island Anne Brigis. “Try the Y Tuesdays allows non-members, from children to senior citizens, to get the full Y experience. The goal is invigorate the community by providing them with an affordable way to stay fit while having fun.”

With an array of activities, ranging from group exercises classes to an indoor rock wall at the YMCA Patchogue Family Rec Center location, Try the Y Tuesdays will allow residents across Long Island to experience all physical activities the YMCA has to offer. Residents can take aquatic classes, use state-of-the-art fitness equipment and interact with staff members to learn more about YMCA-LI. In addition, its programs accommodate children and adults of all ages, making it the perfect place for the entire family.

“There is truly something for everyone at YMCA-LI,” added Brigis. “Mothers can take a Zumba class while their children get exercise on the basketball courts. Through Try the Y Tuesdays, we hope the Long Island community can come, learn and appreciate all of the wonderful amenities the Y has to offer.”
