1 Dead, 4 Injured In Chaotic Harlem Car Crash, Police Say

The driver hit five people and four other cars on Thursday evening.

HARLEM, NY — One cyclist was killed, and several other people were injured after a car crash on Thursday night in Harlem, New York City Police Department officials said.

According to the NYPD, a 49-year-old man driving a red Hyundai Tucson eastbound on West 125th Street lost control near Frederick Douglass Boulevard, just after 8 p.m.

The driver hit a 28-year-old cyclist and a 33-year-old cyclist before hitting a Toyota RAV4 being driven by a 40-year-old man, police said.

Then, the driver hit a parked Lexus with a 28-year-old man and a 23-year-old man inside, before hitting an unoccupied parked NYPD cruiser and an unoccupied tractor-trailer, police said.

The 28-year-old cyclist was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, and the 33-year-old cyclist was taken to Harlem Hospital in critical condition, police said.

The man in the Toyota and the two men in the Lexus were also taken to Harlem hospital, where they are in stable condition, authorities said.

Police said no charges against the driver have been filed yet, as of Friday morning, but the investigation into the crash is underway.
