Man Stabs Wife In Harlem Apartment Before Jumping 8 Stories To Death, Police Say

A man was found dead in the parking lot next to a building where a 53-year-old woman was found suffering multiple stab wounds.

HARLEM, NY — A man stabbed his wife inside the couple's Harlem apartment before jumping eight floors to his death, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

Police responded to 2640 Frederick Douglass Boulevard, near the corner of West 141st Street, around 9:15 p.m. Sunday to investigate an assault, police said. When police responded to the scene they found a 69-year-old man lying unconscious and unresponsive in a parking lot next to the building, police said. The man's identity has not been released pending family notification, an NYPD spokesman told Patch.

Inside of an eighth-floor apartment police found a 53 year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds to her torso, police told Patch. The woman has been identified as Bernarda Ferreiras, the resident of the apartment, police said.

An NYPD spokesman told Patch that the man and woman were married, and that a dispute likely lead to the fatal stabbing.

Police have not made any arrests and the homicide investigation is still ongoing, police told Patch.
